House is the Way to Go

Hi Jase,

When it comes to mortgage advice and getting a new house, your bro is not the person to ask. Sorry Nels but you aren't the expert in that department. If you want advice on saving, I am sure Nels could give you some good advice because he must be saving his money, his clothes date back to the 1990's with holes, stains, etc... Ok, I had to stir the s$#%! Waiting for your response Nels.

I think you would be better off getting a condo which fits your needs at a lower price point provided you guys can afford it. One thing to also consider is that heating and electricity costs can get really high in the winter. You are looking at another 100 to 150 a month for that. Take in consideration that you pay municipal taxes but then you have to pay for water on top of it. In Ontario, water taxes apply but I am not sure if it is included in the municipal taxes in Montreal. Something to look into. Then you have house insurance, mortgage insurance which is an extra $100 a month or more.

I am not trying to discourage you from buying a condo but just make sure you consider all these extra expenses. If you are getting an older house, make sure you factor in renos and other problems you might have to fix.

Happy house hunting! It is definitely an exciting part of starting a marriage!

Good luck

Dino
