What up people, looks like the Blog is alive and well...
I thought I would come on here and give a little life update for me and the future missus.
I've been working in my current position for almost a year (it'll be year in a couple of weeks) and so far so good. I've been working really hard for this past year but it's starting to pay off and they've been giving me more responsibility. It also looks like I'll start doing some traveling next week starting with Atlanta which is pretty cool.
In the mean time Sheree and I have been slowly picking at wedding stuff. We have the hall and church and have pretty much settled on our Photographer, we're just doing one final looksy loo to make sure we're getting the right one. They're right at the end of our budget, but I believe they're worth it. the photo/video is the only true thing that lasts (besides the marriage hopefully) from the wedding celebration, so that's the one place I don't want to skimp out. After that it's DJ music time.
Other than that Sheree and I have been house shopping because we want to take advantage of the good rates before they start going up (if they start going up). I also have been saying this for a while, but I ideally I would like to live alone before I get married. Get that bachelor itch in me out of my system. I'm totally fine moving from my parents to living with Sheree but I would really love to have my own place and be live indepenthly first.
We initially started looking at houses, but realized soon after that it was a little ambitious of us to move straight into a house. Sheree's work is still in flux, and we felt that if we took on a big mortgage would really be struggling for the first few years, and that's something we didn't want to start our lives with.
We contemplated renting (briefly) but came to the decision we could get a nice little condo in NDG for now and then in a few years time when we're both a little more settled we would look into getting our dream house. By then we will most likely be ready to leave the city and head out the burbs. But for right now, we're both young and really enjoy living where we leave (although the houses are SUPER expensive around us).
Now I know Big bro for some reason objects to us getting a condo, and I can see where he's coming from. But I have literally spent many sleepless nights mulling over the details, and I believe Sheree and I are making the right decision. We figured why rent an apartment in our area for about 800-1200$ a month, when we can pay our mortgage for a condo that is roughly the same amount of money. This way we're not throwing away our money, but building equity which we can use later on to buy our house, or even rent the condo (if we can) and get some income that way.
We both decided we wanted something a little newer and we set off looking. There weren't many being offered but there was a really nice one in CSL. The problem is the taxes are high and the condo fees are pretty high cause there's a pool etc....
Then we stumbled upon one yesterday....
This is not a high rise condo complex, it's actually a triplex almost, built in 2005, close (but not too close
) to my current place. It's got a really nice balcony, garage etc.. and we are confident we could get the price closer to our target we were looking for. The funnies thing is that my neighbor would be my good Friend Derek's brother. That's another reason why we're intrigued by this one cause he has a really nice setup, and we could see the potential. Of course no place is perfect, and the second bedrooms are a little small, but it has a larger "living room/dining room" area that the other condos we'd been looking at. It also has lower condo fees (very low) and lower taxes.
Anyway, we may go take another look at the place tonight with our parents to see what we think. I'm definitely not taking this decision lightly and I keep flip flopping back and forth that my stomach and back are killing.
I just wanted to give you all insight into what's going on our lives over here. It feels good to air out all this stuff cause the more I read it, the more confident I am we're making the right decision.
Who knows, maybe this time next week I'll be a "home" owner
