Well glad that last post went over so well.... |-|

Tonight I went out with Mark after not seeing each other for 2 weeks. We went to watch Star Trek, and I know you all were waiting for my review to know if it was worth checking out so here it is...

It was AWESOME! I think it is the perfect start to the summer blockbusters.

I don't consider myself a Trekker (Trekkie is considered an insult) by any stretch of the imagination. Sure I grew up watching the show once in awhile, and a few years ago I went through a little Star Trek faze where I would watch every version throughout the day, but its definitely not my 24. But I have always had a respect for it no matter how cheesy some might consider it. I mean if you really watch an episode, and merely focus on the technology you can see how it has influenced todays gadgets... The Motorola StarTak... that was a copy of the original Star Trek Commicators, BlueTooth head sets... Ohura had one of those babies in her ear all the way back in the 70's... and the list goes on. I can even agknowlege that the story lines were sometimes pretty deep. They were direct representations of what was going on in the world, be it religion, politics, or racism. So I really think that it will always be considered a very important show.

And that being said, I think this movie has brought the old shows back to life for a whole new generation. I was super happy that they didn't mess with the original formula and stuck to what everyone loved about the old shows, but with a fresh coat of paint. The story was great, I really felt like I was getting the origins of the characters and they all made sense. And man was it funny! I thought I was going to watch this crazy action movie and didn't think they would keep the comedy aspect of the show, but there were times were we were seriously ROFL!

I think you all should see it. Even the Ladies like Sheree and Tara will like it (if only cause the Young Kirk has some serious Baby Blues) I'm looking forward to seeing it again. I will admit that there were some moments that I teared up just from seeing something like the Enterprise for the first time or the closing theme, cause it just brought me back to being a kid and remembering what it was like to have dreams... Something I think is lacking today... I don't think kids dream the same way we did... whens the last time you saw a kids build a spaceship out of cardboard boxes... The End Of Innocence... One day you'll all see it...

So Mark and I have decided to Freeze ourselves and when we Thaw out in the future we're gonna sign up with the Star Fleet! I bet you'll wanna sign up too after seeing this.

Beam Me Up Scotty!
