So last week I posted about Diggnation, and this week I just wanted to share my other favorite video podcast with you guys, The Totally Rad Show.
The Totally Rad show or TRS as us "in the know" call it is a show done by 3 guys, Dan Trachtenberg (the show brown haired Jewish fellow) Jeff Cannata (the tall guy) and Alex Albrecht (the blond guy from Diggnation)
The premise of the show is simple... they sit around and talk about the stuff I like... Movies, Games, TV Shows and sometimes comics. The thing is that they are just 3 regular guys that are passionate about these things. Sure Dan is a director for Commercials and Jeff and Alex are Actors so sometimes the discussions can get kinda technical but it adds to the conversation. But the real joy I get from the show is that I sometimes sit there watching and imagine or think back to some of the conversations we have had and can sooo see us doing a show like this too. Sometimes we agree, some times we disagree, but no matter which it is, its still fun to witness.
I really think this is one of the best Podcast out there, especially for the "NON GEEK" because you really don't need to know anything, you just have to watch. And if you don't want to hear about something like a video game then you can skip that segment. But if there is anything you should really watch is the intros. Every week they film a new intro based on a scene from a movie or TV show. They never tell you what it is, you just have to figure it out, but they are just amazing. I have more then once made Mark sit down to play Guess the intro and he doesn't seem to mind. He also has been known to actually want to watch an episode or two with me... I gonna make him a geek yet... you'll see!
And with that I bring sad news.... As of their latest episode (104) they will no longer be doing these "tribute" intros. I was shocked to hear of this cause I really looked forward to them every week, probably more then I do 98% of the shows on TV. Also EP 104 was the last episode for their Cameraman and editor Steve. On most shows that wouldn't mean very much, but in this case it means a lot. This guy was just amazing. The little jokes he would throw in while editing a scene were usually hysterical, and up until this weeks episode I probably never paid attention to his camera work, but they showed a little tribute video he made for his house (where they filmed TRS prior to him leaving) and I swear its one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen. I'm not joking on how this video effected me. I will be trying everything in my power to emulate it in any family home video I do in the future. I have seen nice videos before and maybe its just because I have a relationship with the show that it has "meaning" to me, but that's fine because I would only use it on a video that has meaning to me... To put it into perspective.... Watching the tribute actually made me wish I had taken Video Editing in school and I have NEVER EVER wished I took anything different then computers in school.
I'm posting their 2 year anniversary video here that shows the Top 5 intros as well as the Tribute I spoke of. (Its the Tribute to the House not the Tribute to Steve) I really hope you guys watch it, cause I think its worth the watch... And let me know if I'm wrong
(You can open the video in a new window here or make it full screen by clicking the button on the video bellow)
This weeks intro is a bit obscure to us Canadians but its the 80's intro that HBO showed right before it aired a movie. (Think FIRST CHOICE)
Also the scene after the intro is going to be confusing for those who don't usually watch cause its setting up the New season and closing the doors on the past 2 seasons.
UPDATE: I had to continue this post after I found the Link to FIRST CHOICE It brought back some memories seeing it... remember sitting around on a week end and opening your TV GUIDE and joyfully finding out that FIRST CHOICE was having one of their FREE PREVIEW WEEK ENDS!!!! I know my parents were too cheap to pay for anything more then basic cable so finding out I got FIRST CHOICE free was like finding the Golden Ticket! Later on it came to mean you were sure to finally watch a movie that showed BOOBIES!!! And as a bonus for us Montrealers.... It would be in SHOW ENGLISH BOOBIES!!!
Sheree, can you do me a favor play word association with your brothers and say FIRST CHOICE. I want to see if they remember the channel too. I know they won't tell you about the boobies thing (since I'm the only man alive willing to talk sex with my brother and sister) but I'd love to know if its just me that remembers these types of things, cause Mark and I can go on and on thinking back to the craziest shit.. wish you guys were around for our 1 hour walk down memory lane for CONSUMERS DISTRIBUTING
UPDATE 2: If you're too "busy" to watch the episode I posted up top then at least watch this to get an idea of the show, its a short montage.
